"A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life."

Every time we pick a show, we ask ourselves three questions: Will our students be challenged? Is it something we’ve already done before? Will our audience love it? Godspell answered all of those questions with a giant “YES!”

So, what exactly is Godspell? It’s a modern retelling of a series of biblical parables, primarily based on the book of Matthew. Godspell opened Off-Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has since been produced by multiple touring companies and in many countries. It was revamped and opened its Broadway revival in 2011. The version our kids are playing is a condensed version called Godspell Jr. We’ve chosen our setting as a 1990’s back alley way and it may have been our favorite show to costume so far!

Like any show, we’ve had our obstacles. This music is hard. The terminology and concepts haven’t been the easiest to grasp. We missed a week and a half of rehearsals because of snow and these kids worked extra hard to make up for that lost time. They have knocked it out of the park and we are so proud of them!!

Our hope is that you, our audience, will be reminded that love conquers all, that hasty judgment blocks that love, and that EVERYONE on this earth is loved by someone.

Thank you so much for joining us and supporting your local children’s theatre! Your support and advocacy for our kids and Performing Arts is humbling. We love you all!
