Domestic violence is about power and control. A pattern of assaultive and/or coercive behaviors, including physical, sexual, and psychological attacks, as well as economic coercion, that adults or adolescents use against their intimate partners.
Don’t be afraid to let him/her know that you are concerned for their safety. Help your friend or family member recognize the abuse. Tell him or her you see what is going on and that you want to help. Help them recognize that what is happening is not “normal” and that they deserve a healthy, non-violent relationship.
Once you have escaped an abusive relationship, you must stay diligent to protect yourself. 70% of Domestic Violence murders occur after the victim has left the relationship.
